An Autobiographical Date Set
Plexi shelf with 480 miniature paper milk cartons, handmade paper, menstrual fluid, LED lights
2016- ongoing
This is an ongoing recording of an autobiographical data set of menstruation. This piece interrogates labor through the labor of making and the capacity and incidental labor of my body represented through the fluids of milk and menstrual blood. It asks where the value of potential labor, as an artist and as a woman, is located over time through aging. The number of shelves, milk cartons, and size of each container represent the average number for American women of years, menstrual cycles, and quantity of blood lost per cycle. Cartons still upright signify cycles I would expect to experience before menopause based on those averages.
